And This is Us

The format "And This is Us" is an invitation to take a sensory approach to the phenomena of our time through the perspective of young artists. The focus is not on an overarching theme, but rather the participants are accompanied in the conception and realisation of their very own themes.

La Caoba is an off-the-grid global movement initiated by Larry Bonćhaka (Ghana) and Sopo Kashakashvili (Georgia). The exhibition involves collaborations with local farmers, environmental foundations, and creators, deeply rooted in the rhythms of nature, reimagining the environment and food as sites of healing and hope. Together, we transform this space into a living ecosystem—a shared ground for dialogue, action, and collective dreaming.

One becomes digitally immersed in surreal micro-landscapes of foods. The hierarchies of scale which informs genres in art is subverted; with "still-life" foods becoming a landscape.

Kanzo Caves (2025), Tracy's contribution to this exhibition, forms part of her topographical exploration of the micro-worlds of foods. “Kanzo” in Ghanaian culinary tradition refers to “charred rice”— formed at the base of saucepans. The digital terrains for this virtual reality (VR) exploration are developed from a combination of Digital Elevation Modelling (DEM) and microscopy of modified foods. Foods made of rice, wheat, and millet are crystallised into different structures, which are reverse-engineered into digital forms. This body of work merges and critiques genres of still-life and landscape to deal with shared morphogenesis and ecology of things at varied scales, inclusive of microbial life and uncanny forms. The terrains also feature the bodies of booklice, which form part of the ecosystem in breaking down the foods Tracy experiments with.
