Roubaix, France

21 April, 2021 — 25 July, 2021

Group Exhibition

Matières Sensibles ‘Of Materials and Things

Matières sensibles celebrates the diversity of contemporary African art. Bringing together some fifteen artists from across the continent, these works combine ancestral culture and modernism, past and future, to better understand the present time.

The members of the Exit Frame collective (Ghana), curators of the exhibition and artists in residence at the Condition Publique throughout the season, invite us with Matières sensibles to shed light on and contextualize their own creation. Internationally recognized or presented in France for the first time, the artists highlight experimental and plural approaches through a range of forms ranging from organic, synthetic, digital, virtual, relational and auditory technologies.

The diversity of the works testifies to the plurality of points of view and aesthetics with which we can all identify, beyond the ethnic and personal distances that separate us. The selected works offer us a testimony, a method, an idea of freedom and artistic responsibility. The exhibition aims to propose modes of engagement in today's world that transcend the cultural or identity markers to which we are accustomed, in order to explore the strength of what is common to all of us, human and non-human.
