Busan Biennale: Seeing in the Dark
The Busan Biennale 2024 was held at the Busan Museum of Contemporary Art, Busan Modern & Contemporary History Museum, HANSUNG1918, and Choryang House under the theme of "Seeing in the Dark" and led by co-artistic directors Vera Mey and Philippe Pirotte. What might it mean to see in the dark? It is this predicament we find ourselves in, as navigating ground that is at once known and unknowable, a terrifying place, yet, our imperative is to imagine a beyond like never before. Instead of admonishing darkness, we see these depths as presenting an embracing alternative.
