Morphogenesis: Reverse-Engineering Foods and Still-Life
This exhibition was held at the Department of Materials Engineering (KNUST) lab, where I started my bioplastic research with my colleague Patrick Nii Okanta Ankrah (in 2018). It explored a wide variety of my experimentations with foods and still-life: 3D prints, food petals, food fabrics, microbe vanitas video installation, microtopography video, and cartography. Worlds Within Worlds is my approach to creating a multidimensional or multiverses of my works. It is burrowed from popular culture multiverse where there are alternate worlds, which speaks to this interest in polymorphous forms and plasticity. The forms varied in different scales and perspectives that are both intimate and immersive. This exhibition ponders the possibilities of immersive microstructures of foods. It also looks at microbial consumption and decomposition in transforming food morphology. It expands the vanitas tradition to that of the micro. It plays with cartographic forms or maps that also expand our notions of landscape concerning micro-forms and the complexity of mapping strange terrains of modified foods.
