Embracing the Traumatic in the Aesthetic Unconscious
The event forms part of programming for Wolfgang Tillmans’s touring exhibition titled ‘Wolfgang Tillmans: Fragile’, showing at the Museum of Science and Technology in Accra, Ghana, from 8th October - 14th November, 2021. The exhibition is under the auspices of Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen e.V. (ifa), Germany, and the Goethe Institut, Accra.

“Fragile” was the title of Wolfgang Tillmans’ touring exhibition in Africa, featuring more than 200 of his works created between 1986 and 2018. This language catalogue was published to accompany the exhibition and features writing by Christine Eyene, N’Goné Fall, Bart van der Heide and Ashraf Jamal.
“The exhibition attempts to show fragility as a strength, not a weakness, taking its titular references from Tillmans music band in the 1990s. The exhibition includes a wide range of works, from large-scale prints to sculptural objects, video projections, and music, to his curatorial work in making the exhibition.”
